Word for the Day

For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and does not return there, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing I sent it to do.  Isaiah 55:10-11

Honoring with their Lips

Men profess they know the truth; but they know it not in its proper order, in its harmony and use.  It leads them not to Christ, it brings not Christ unto them; and so is lifeless and useless.  Hence, ofttimes, none are more estranged from the life of God than such as have much notional knowledge of the doctrines of the Scripture.

John Owen

Word for the Day

The soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, so that none of them would swim out and escape. But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stopped them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should throw themselves overboard first to go toward the land; and the rest should follow, some on planks, and some on other things from the ship. So it happened that they all escaped safely to the land.  Acts 27:42-44

Righteous Judgment

And then let us never look upon any sin as light and inconsiderable; but be fully persuaded, that the smallest is infinitely heinous in the sight of God, and prejudicial to the souls of men; and that, if we had the right sense of things, we should be as deeply affected with the least irregularities, as now we are with the highest crimes.

Henry Scougal

He is the Potter

A piece of lead, while it is in the lump, can be put to no use, but melt it, and you may then cast it into any mould, and it is made useful.  So a heart that is hardened into a lump of sin is good for nothing, but when it is dissolved by repentance, it is useful.  A melting heart is fit to pray.
